Yesterday, Thursday, 25th March, was the 16th anniversary of the murder of 64-year-old widow Doreen Morris, whose badly burnt remains were discovered at her home in Holyhead in 1994.
A house to house leaflet campaign with the assistance of Royal Mail, encouraging people to come forward with any information they may have about the murder, got underway on Monday and already, North Wales Police officers are encouraged by the response.
Detective Chief Inspector John Hanson from the Force’ Major Incident Team said: “I am encouraged by the response we have had from the community in Holyhead and the positive assistance that has been given to my colleagues.
“I continue to believe that the crucial information that is needed to successfully resolve this investigation lies within this community. I would urge those who have already helped to continue to do so, and ask those that are considering coming forward to contact me.
He added: “I am keen to discuss various support options available to the police with anyone who has information, but is reluctant to come forward. I can assure anyone who may be worried about coming forward, that they will receive our full support and protection.”
Police are also offering a £100,000 reward to anyone with information which will lead to the arrest, charge and conviction of Mrs Morris’ killer(s).
Mrs Morris’ family are also urging people to come forward. Her daughter, Audrey Fraser said: “At the 16th anniversary of my mother’s brutal murder I again appeal to the public for help. “Consider what happened to her – the telephone cable was cut so she could not call for help and her home was broken into in the dead of night.
“There is some comfort in knowing my mother was dead before she was burned.
“So I ask, do you really think the murderer(s) deserve your loyalty? Don’t be afraid.
“This is not going to go away – my family and the police are committed to the resolution of this crime. Please pick up the phone for my mother, and for Megan, the corgi, who died with her.
“My thanks, as always for the enormous help and support from the public.”
Daughter, Helen Speed, and son, Andrew Morris, also said: “We would urge anybody who has any information regarding the murder of our mother to come forward.
“Someone somewhere must know something and any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may be the key to catching the person or persons responsible.
“16 years is a long time to keep a secret and a long time for our family to get some closure.”
