Dyfed-Powys Police has charged a 29 year-old male with two offences of rape on a 16 year-old female on New Years Day in Llandrindod Wells. The 29 year old male appeared in Welshpool magistrates Court this morning and has been remanded in custody until his next appearance in Merthyr Crown Court on the 17th of January 2011.
The victim was assaulted as she walked in the vicinity of Hill Crest, North Avenue and Crabtree Green on her way home from the Venue nightclub.
Police are still appealing for anyone who saw the female walking along the route to come forward as they may have vital information, which could assist the investigation. This includes people leaving the Middleton Public House and in the Brookfield Rd area near the level crossing and North Avenue. Dyfed-Powys Police is keen to speak to witnesses who were out in the town during the evening who may have seen the victim or anyone acting suspiciously.
The victim is currently receiving specialist support from trained officers.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Shane Williams said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public in Llandrindod Wells and the surrounding areas for all their support since this investigation was launched. They have assisted us greatly and helped us bring about the arrest and charge of this male. I would also like to reassure the local community that these offences are extremely rare and the county remains one of the safest places to live in England and Wales.”
