Police crack down on crime in Ebbw Vale

Ebbw Vale Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out a ‘Team Action Day’ last Wednesday in a drive to reduce crime in the town.

Neighbourhood officers and colleagues from the Gwent Police Support Group patrolled the area on foot and in vehicles throughout the day to disrupt criminals and address PACT (Partners and Communities Together) priorities.

A drugs warrant was carried out, fines were issued for speeding and parking offences, suspected criminals were stop-searched, and a significant amount of intelligence was gathered.

The drugs warrant was executed in the Hilltop area and one man was issued with a warning for possession of a small amount of cannabis.

Officers joined forces with DVLA staff for part of the day to clamp untaxed vehicles.

Any vehicles that contained valuables left on view had their registration numbers taken and their owners will soon receive a letter from Gwent Police warning them to take more care when leaving their vehicles parked.

The results of the ‘Team Action Day’ in Ebbw Vale on Wednesday included:

  • One warning issued for possession of cannabis.
  • Five stop-searches were carried out on suspected criminals.
  • Three untaxed vehicles were clamped – two in Rassau and one in Hilltop.
  • Two speeding tickets were issued as a result of speed gun checks on Badminton Road and Beaufort Road.
  • 11 parking tickets were issued in the Ebbw Vale North and Beaufort wards.
  • 49 people will receive crime prevention letters after valuables were left on view in their vehicles.

Sergeant Matt Briggs, of Ebbw Vale Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Initiatives like this ‘Team Action Day’ show that we are listening to the people of Ebbw Vale and responding by disrupting criminals and making life better for residents.

The action we took directly addressed current PACT priorities in areas of Ebbw Vale, which were voted for by local people through meetings and surveys.

We will continue to conduct these types of activities and consider the views of the public through the PACT process.”
