Police operation in Abergavenny aims to reduce anti-social behaviour involving vehicles

Police in Abergavenny arrested one man and issued fixed penalty fines to four others in an operation targeting the anti-social use of vehicles.

Officers carried out the operation in Waitrose car park on Wednesday evening (July 6th) in response to reports of nuisance behaviour in the area, mainly involving vehicles.

In total 66 vehicles were stopped – results included:

• One man from Abergavenny was arrested for possession of cannabis. He was later charged and bailed to appear in court.

• A small quantity of cannabis was seized from another man from Abergavenny. He was issued with a fixed penalty fine for disorder.

• Another three people were given fixed penalty fines for a variety of offences.

• Four prohibition notices were issued to vehicles, which means they have been taken off the road until defects that were identified are rectified.

Sergeant Ceri Carlyon, who organised the operation, said: “This operation demonstrates that we will not tolerate any behaviour that causes a nuisance to others, whether it involves vehicles or not. “I would like to thank Waitrose for their cooperation and for allowing us to use their premises. “We will continue to target those involved in this type of activity and would be grateful for any information members of the public can offer us on crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.”
