A Conwy Valley Secondary School is celebrating after securing a place in the regional semi-final of the All Wales School Core Programme Quiz.
Year eight pupils from Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy were victorious this week at the quiz which was held at force headquarters in Colwyn Bay.
The quiz is based on topics the pupils have covered in lessons taken by their school liaison officer – a police officer who teaches the children about community safety, substance misuse and anti-social behaviour.
The local authority heat saw six teams from the Conwy county participating, Ysgol Aberconwy, Ysgol Bryn Elian, Ysgol John Bright, Ysgol y Creuddyn and Eirias High School.
“The quiz covered topics such as the dangers surrounding drugs and alcohol misuse, crime, arson and personal safety issues,” said Schools Liaison Officer, PC Meirion Williams.
“There were six rounds in total and the teams should all be proud of themselves and we very much look forward to the next stage of the competition.”
Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy will now face the winners from the rest of the heats at the Regional Semi-Final to be held at Venue Cymru in January 2010.
Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy Headteacher Ifor Efans said: “I’m very proud of the team as they’ve all worked hard and I look forward to the next round in a few weeks time.”
