Five local schools have won through to the regional round of the All Wales Core Programme Quiz after competing against 30 school teams in the local round of the quiz which took place at various venues around Gwent on Friday November 27.
The five winning teams going through to the regional round will not only be representing their school but also their Local Authority: Brynmawr Foundation School will be representing Blaenau Gwent; Cwmcarn Comprehensive School will represent Caerphilly; Chepstow Comprehensive will represent Monmouthshire; Hartridge High School will represent Newport and Fairwater High School will represent Torfaen. All pupils taking part in the quiz are year eight pupils aged between 12 and 13.
The winning team of the regional round will represent Gwent in the All Wales National Final which will take place in February next year.
The quiz is based on lessons delivered as part of the All Wales School Liaison Core Programme which is currently being delivered by School Liaison Officers to all schools across Wales and complements the work being undertaken by PSE teachers in the field of crime prevention.
The Programme focuses on Crime Prevention issues and is composed of three main themes, namely:
• Drug and Substance Misuse
• Social Behaviour and Community
• Safety
