Police Recognised for Support to Remembrance Parades

Remembrance ParadesPowys Chief Superintendent Steve Hughson was awarded a plaque by the Llandrindod Wells Branch of the Royal British legion following this years’ Remembrance Parade.

The top cop was handed the honour in recognition of the support given to the parade by the local Police Service in recent years.

Steve, who takes part in the parade every year, said: “I am very proud to have been presented with this plaque and place great importance on remembrance parades across the County.

“Police presence on the parades is often difficult to achieve as most of the available staff are engaged on traffic duties, making sure that the parades are able to move safely in the towns across the County. This award is as much for those staff as for the ones actually taking part in the parade.

“We should never forget those who have fought and died in the many conflicts of the past. However the current conflicts in the Middle East bring into sharp focus the importance and excellence of the British Armed Forces. Our thoughts should be with those families who have been killed or seriously injured in the current conflict in Afghanistan.”

To demonstrate its commitment, Police in Powys are organising the second WAAT 4 Challenge. The event, which takes place across the Brecon Beacons in June, hopes to build on the success of last year by topping the £40,000 raised during the charity endurance race. A substantial part of the proceeds for next year’s event will be donated to the Help for Heroes charity.
