Swansea’s bowls players are being called on to lay down their mats and polish their woods in preparation for a summer tournament.
The Swansea Bowls Festival returns to Victoria Park from July 18 to August 7 and is open to bowlers of all abilities. So novice bowlers could find themselves competing against top national and international bowlers as well as big local names like Steve Rees, John Price and Wyn Matthews.
The Bowls Festival is now in its 43rd year and categories include men’s and women’s singles and pairs, mixed pairs, visually impaired integrated pairs and junior singles.
A new one-day, two wood open pairs competition is also being held on the opening day to kick-off the 2010 Festival.
Swansea Council supports the event Outdoor Leisure Manager Brian Hughes said: “The Swansea Bowls Festival is always a popular event and we hope this year is no exception. We also hope we even get the sunny weather we’ve been promised over the last few years.”
Entry forms are now available from the Civic Centre, the Guildhall and Swansea Indoor Bowls Centre or to download from www.swansea.gov.uk/bowlsfestival where you’ll also find a full timetable. The closing date for entries is Monday, June 14.
