Ponty’s Big Weekend fever swept through the County Borough when Rhondda Cynon Taf Council awarded hundreds of young people with exclusive tickets for the hot, summer event as a reward for their achievements.
The County Borough is preparing to welcome thousands of people from across the UK to the flagship weekend to see one of Britain’s biggest boy bands, The Wanted, operatic superstar Paul Potts and a fantastic line-up of support acts.
Joining the crowds of visitors will be pupils from all secondary schools in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Some 500 pupils have been given the tickets by the Council as part of its Services For Young People E3+ provision.
E3+ offers a range of exciting and enriching activities that pupils can access, free of charge, before and after their traditional school day.
From days away kayaking, canoeing and horse-riding to DJ workshops, street dancing lessons, sporting activities, homework support and even astronomy, E3+ is changing the lives of young people, offering opportunities with no challenges such as cost or transport.
Free access to The Wanted at Ponty’s Big Weekend is another example of the doors that E3+ can open for young people.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Council Business, said: “Ponty’s Big Weekend is, once again, causing a real stir thanks to the Council securing internationally-acclaimed acts including The Wanted and Paul Potts.
“People from all over the UK are flocking to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park for the weekend and we wanted to make sure our young people also had an opportunity enjoy this event.
“E3+ continues to deliver enriching, enhancing and exciting opportunities for young people and the chance to be at Ponty’s Big Weekend on the Saturday, with The Wanted, Dionne Bromfield and more forms part of that.”
Ponty’s Big Weekend is being delivered by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council in partnership with Orchard Entertainment and Costain.
The Saturday night concert features The Wanted, Starboy Nathan, Twenty Twenty and Dionne Bromfield. Tickets cost £15 plus standard booking fee.
The Sunday, family event is headlined by Paul Potts and will also star Rhondda Cynon Taf’s very own Sophie Evans, currently starring as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz,.
Also performing are Natasha Marsh, who has celebrated a number one classical album and performed with Jose Carreras, Il Divo, Russell Watson and Paul Potts, and female quartet All Angels, who have made an international name for themselves – and accolades from the likes of Sir Paul McCartney – with their beautiful blend of classical, opera and pop music.
Tickets for the Sunday event are free, but there is a limit of six tickets per booking.
