Ponty’s Big Weekend Headline Act Announced – The Wanted

Thousands of fans will once again be flocking to Rhondda Cynon Taf’s, Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd this July as Rhondda Cynon Taf Council announces the headline act for this years Ponty’s Big Weekend.

The hot new talent and hugely successful boy band – The Wanted are set to take the town by storm – fresh from their chart and album success Max, Siva, Jay, Tom and Nathan will take to the stage on Saturday July 23, performing for crowds in the stunning Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.

The Wanted have seen huge chart success over the last year with hits like “All Time Low”, “Heart Vacancy” and “Lose My Mind” and are a definitely a hit with the female fans. The boys currently have a single topping the charts in aid of Red Nose Day 2011 – “Gold Forever”.

Tickets are set to go sale this Thursday (17th March) and are likely to sell out fast so to avoid disappointment put this date in your diary!

Councillor Maureen Webber, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Council Business, said: “Ponty’s Big Weekend continues to be the event of the year for residents and visitors alike. With acts like the Wanted on the bill, this year’s concerts are set to be bigger and better than ever before. Every year the Council continues to attract high profile stars to our principle town.”

“Our ability to attract such a commercially successful act as The Wanted, stands as testimony to the reputation Pontypridd and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council now has for hosting high profile events.

“Just as important for raising the profile of Rhondda Cynon Taf and all it has to offer to the rest of the UK, Ponty’s Big Weekend is also vital for the ongoing regeneration of the area and we hope businesses and local residents alike will benefit from the opportunities this flagship weekend presents.

“As in previous years the event will deliver a significant economic boost for the local economy in and around Pontypridd.”

Pontypridd is currently undergoing a major transformation as the town welcomes the largest funding package ever invested in the town centre.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council have succeeded in attaining an incredible £10.5million cash injection which the town centre has desperately needed for many years.

“This funding announcement will deliver major improvements which will ensure Pontypridd is transformed in to an attractive visitor’s destination for the 21st century to continue to attract and host significant events to the town.”

Costain are supporting the regeneration of Pontypridd town centre and are an official sponsor of Ponty’s Big Weekend 2011.

Proceeds from booking fees generated during tickets sales will be donated to the Pontypridd War Memorial Appeal, which is one of the good causes supported by the 2011 Mayors Charity Appeal.
