North Wales Police will have a strong presence in Porthmadog this weekend, both to reassure local people and to talk to them about the murder of 22 year-old Ffion Wyn Roberts last Saturday.
Police officers will be highly visible on the streets tonight (Friday) and tomorrow night and teams of investigating officers will be out and about in local pubs handing out leaflets and speaking to people who may also have been there last weekend.
The town’s police station will continue its open door policy with members of the public welcome to call in at anytime between 9 am and 10 pm.
Detective Superintendent Peter Chalinor, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: “We are continuing to get a great deal of help from local people. Tonight and tomorrow night we will be asking people in the pubs to focus in on where they were last Friday night to try to jog some memories for any information which may help the investigation.
“The person or persons responsible have as yet not been arrested and the investigation is continuing on a large scale. We have an increased police presence in the town and this will continue over the weekend to reassure people.”
Local police officers will also attend the Porthmadog FC match tomorrow afternoon to hand out leaflets appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
Family Liaison Officers are continuing to support Ffion’s parents, Idris and Bethan and her younger brother, Elgan, at their Porthmadog home. Her family are continuing to appeal to the media to respect their need for privacy at this very difficult time.
Ffion was last seen in the Union public house, Tremadog, at about 3.30 am on Saturday, April 10, from where she is believed to have made her way home on foot along Church Street to Porthmadog.
Detective Superintendent Chalinor said: “We have not as yet discovered anything to suggest that this incident is connected to any other, nor is there anything to suggest that this was anything other than a one off attack. People in the area need to be reassured that incidents like this are extremely rare and that North Wales Police will continue to invest time and resources into the specialist teams dedicated to establishing the facts behind Ffion’s murder .”
Anyone who was in Tremadog or Porthmadog between 9pm on Friday, April 9, and 8am on Saturday, April 10, is asked to contact the incident room on 01745 538474 or to contact the Force on 101.
