POVA Roadshow 2010

Safeguarding vulnerable adults is everyone’s business and help is available for those who have concerns! That’s the message the South Wales Adult Protection (SWAP) Forum is delivering to shoppers in Neath Port Talbot this month.

They have arranged 2 information days during July to raise awareness of how anyone can play a part in helping to protect adults at risk.

Members of the SWAP Forum were in Aberafan Shopping Centre last Thursday (1st July) and will be in Angel Square, Neath on the 19th July. The aim of the events is to give shoppers the chance to meet adult protection staff, find out what constitutes abuse and learn about the support that is available.

Most people are aware of child protection services, but many do not know that support is available for vulnerable adults who are being mistreated. The awareness days have been organised to help address this and to let people know how to access help.

Vulnerable adults include older people and those with mental health needs and learning disabilities.Anyone who suspects that a vulnerable adult is being mistreated physically, financially, sexually or emotionally can ring 01639 753213 and speak to someone in confidence.
