Powell: Vital that Bronllys Hospital Pain Management Clinic gets Investment

Bil Powell portraitWilliam Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has welcomed the commitment to complete necessary fire safety works at Bronllys Hospital’s Pain Management Clinic by spring 2014.

In a letter to Mr Powell, the First Minister Carwyn Jones has confirmed that Powys LHB “has no plans to stop running residential pain management courses… [and that] the local team are putting in place alternative options for providing the service until the necessary works are complete, which is expected by spring next year.”

William Powell AM said:

“Bronllys Pain Management Clinic is a great asset to the NHS in Powys. While it remains regrettable that the health board were slow to pick up on potential fire hazards and even slower to take the necessary steps to rectify them, I am pleased that a commitment has now been made to complete the required work before the summer.”

Maggie Sims, Chair of Bronllys Hospital and Community League of Friends, added:

“The League of Friends welcomes this news as they feel the Pain Clinic is a wonderful asset to Powys and indeed the whole of Wales. Several patients from different parts of Wales have told the League of Friends just how much they benefited by attending the Pain Clinic. We are aware that the work is being carried out and look forward to the residential block being reopened. The League of Friends has itself committed £1000 to the Pain Clinic to replace some of the older furniture in the residential lounge. We are pleased to make our own contribution towards this nationally recognised centre of excellence.”
