Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, said that the Welsh Government’s revenue settlement for Powys next year is another hammer blow for the provision of local services.
Commenting Mr George said:
“Once again the Welsh Government has given Powys Council another raw deal in its revenue budget for next year”
“The 0.6% reduction is equivalent of a £1m cut and that’s not factoring in the 5% inflation rate. Yet the Minister is telling the public it is up to the local authority whether or not it increases council tax rates”
“The Welsh Government has been given £40m from the UK Government to enable local authorities to freeze council tax, it’s a shame that they don’t want to use this money to prioritise this area and take the strain off hard pressed households.”
