Causing unnecessary suffering to sheep and failure to dispose of sheep carcasses has cost a Powys man £1,200.
David Thomas Powell of Rhosgoch Mill, Rhosgoch pleaded guilty to six charges in total at Brecon Law Courts on Friday September 11. Three charges fell under the Animal By Products (Wales) Regulations 2006 and the remaining three under the Animal Welfare Act 2006
He was fined £600 for the charges and ordered to £600 prosecution and legal costs.
A visit by animal health officers found carcasses at land owned by Powell and also found evidence of failing to provide adequate care and a suitable diet to sheep at the land.
Cllr Graham Brown, Board Member for Public Protection, said: “The farming community must ensure that animal carcasses and by-products are disposed of in the correct manner. They must also ensure that any livestock they keep are adequately cared for.
“If they do not follow the legislation in place then we will investigate and take the appropriate action.”
