Powys pioneers new ‘Google’ for artists and performers

A new online resource for artists and performers in Powys is gearing up for its public launch in the autumn.

arts-engine is a new, searchable online directory of Powys artists, creatives, performers, musicians and writers. The ultimate aim is to include every professional or semi-professional practitioner, across all arts disciplines, in the county.

After the summer, arts-engine will be promoted vigorously to the private, public, voluntary, community and business sectors, both within Powys and further into Wales and the rest of the UK, linking artists with potential new markets and audiences for their work.

Lucy Bevan, of Powys County Council’s Arts Development Service, which pioneered the initiative with support from the Arts Council of Wales, said, “Powys is home to a wealth of professional artist practitioners working, often unobserved, across a wide range of disciplines. arts-engine will be the key to unlocking their talents, both for the benefit of local communities and by showcasing their products and services effectively to the world, which will enhance their own economic and professional success.”

The site already has 130 artists listed on it, but Lucy is confident that there are many more to come. “Our aim is to register at least 200 people before we launch the site,” she explained. “Our first 200 artists will be entered into a prize draw and will also get the chance to be selected to show or perform their work at the launch event. Our message is: don’t wait to be discovered, sign up for arts-engine now!”

Registration on arts-engine is completely free, and is open to all professional and semi-professional artists and performers living or working in Powys. All people have to do is to go to www.arts-engine.org.uk/register and they will be steered through the simple registration process from there.
