Over £10,000 is to be handed out to sports clubs in Powys in the latest round of the Sportlot Community Chest grants.
The scheme, which is administered by Powys County Council, is designed to make a difference to sport and physical activity locally.
Organisations successful in the latest round of funding bids are:
- St Giles Golf Club, Newtown. Awarded £1000 to purchase junior equipment.
- Llanidloes Rugby Football Club. Awarded £1000 to set-up up a new Under 9s team.
- Tenchi Ryu Aikido (Bro Ddyfi) awarded £996 to expand Martial Arts club to other parts of Powys.
- Tregynon Football Club awarded £675 to link with local school and set up coaching for new age group.
- Maldwyn Dragons Gymnastics Club awarded £1000 towards coach education for cheerleading & trampolining scheme.
- Caereinion Gymnastics Club awarded £1000 for expanding club for older age groups.
- Llanidloes Hockey Club awarded £898 towards coach education
- Bettws Rovers Junior Football Club awarded £314.00 towards coach education
- Llandrindod Wells Tornadoes awarded £600 to set up a new U8’s age group.
- Rhayader Ladies Netball Club awarded £870 towards coach education
- Ystradgynlais Mind has been awarded £778 for a walking scheme.
- Brecon Town Junior Football Club awarded £1000 to set-up a new club for U11’s.
- Jelly Beans Netball Club awarded £250.00 towards coach education
The Chariman of the Community Chest panel Ray Dowling extends his congratulatation to all the clubs on their successful applications.
Community Chest grant funding is open to sports clubs, physical activity groups and businesses for projects which help build a fitter, healthier county. Since April this year, £37,433 has already been allocated to clubs and organisations in Powys for physical activity and sport initiatives.
With only just over £18,000 left for the current financial year, Powys County Council urges organisations to get their applications in now so they don’t miss out on the grant. The deadline for the next round of applications is Thursday January 20 2011.
