Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has commended ongoing work to improve coastal defences and regenerate the promenade in Colwyn Bay following a site visit on Monday.
The first phase of works has seen the construction of Porth Eirias and the creation of a permanent beach as part of the coastal defence works.
The latest phases reflects over £7m of investment and will see the continued improvement of coastal defences and regeneration of the promenade. It is is due to be completed in August.
Darren said:
“I am very impressed by what is being achieved on the waterfront in Colwyn Bay. The project combines the renewal of coastal defences with regeneration improvements to the promenade, creating a modern, sustainable and attractive waterfront, which will be an asset to the local community and an attraction for visitors.
“I am also very pleased that the project is generating work for local companies. Over 60% of employment on site during the construction is from North Wales. Ruthin Precast Concrete and Llanddulas Quarry are major suppliers and the old sea wall has been recycled to form the base of the new promenade.”
He added:
“The Colwyn Bay waterfront project is a major redevelopment on the town’s seafront and I’m delighted with the progress that has been made so far. It is providing Colwyn Bay with an asset we can all be proud of.”
