Denbighshire County Council is gearing up to welcome the world to Llangollen next month for the annual spectacle of song, dance and colour at the town’s international musical Eisteddfod.
The Council will have a marquee on the Eisteddfod field (July 5 to 9), where there will be displays promoting the county’s tourism, countryside, arts, heritage and cultural activities and attractions.
Each day, there will be a series of activities based around a specific theme:
- Tuesday, 5 July: Installation art. ‘ World collage of flags done on a leaf’.
- Wednesday, 6 July: Heather and Hillforts – Celts and Moorlands. Storytelling sessions.
- Thursday, 7 July: Installation art. ‘ World collage of flags done on a leaf’.
- Friday, 8 July: Folk Day. Combination of activities, including community archaeology, a harpist and Cauldrons and Furnaces.
- Saturday, 9 July: Tales and tunes from Wales.
Global citizenship will also be a theme running throughout the week.
The Council’s Youth Bus will also be on the site to offer a wide range of activities. It will be staffed by members of the Denbighshire 14-19 Network who will spend the week urging schools and groups to make international links and encouraging young people to become an international writing buddies (or e-pen friends).
There will also be competitions for primary and secondary schools and an opportunity for young people from across the world to make contact with their schools and families via e-mail.
Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for Tourism, said: “This is a great opportunity to show people from across the world what our delightful county has on offer.
“Many people will be staying in the county for a number of days over the period, others will simply be visiting for the day. What we want to do is show people the kinds of attractions we have, the kind of activities we offer, the scenic countryside and our popular tourist destinations along the coast.
“Denbighshire is a county where there is something on offer to cater for all ages, tastes and interest. The Eisteddfod will be a great shop window for us to get Denbighshire firmly on the international map.”
