Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council has won a prestigious award for the most supportive organisation of community transport in Wales.
Neath Port Talbot Community Transport is locally based, low cost, accessible, and flexible. It also provides a reliable means of transport to members of the community with little or no access to a suitable vehicle and enables them to travel throughout the borough on a daily, convenient basis.
The authority has been a long term supporter of community transport and acknowledges the added value the schemes give to the local transport network and are keen to grow and extend their services.
The council employs a dedicated member of staff who works with the schemes, allocating funding, providing advice, support and practical assistance.
One of the transport schemes benefiting from NPT support is DANSA, based in Crynant providing a service to residents living in the Neath Port Talbot Valley areas. DANSA provides a local bus service, dial-a-ride, group hire minibuses, a community car service and a low cost door to door service 7 days a week.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council Ali Thomas, said,
“A Community Transport initiative such as DANSA provides an essential low cost service to our residents and is extremely important as an alternative solution to the many challenges faced in public transport delivery in Neath Port Talbot.
“The council would not be able to operate this service without the dedication and commitment of all our volunteers, members of staff and community transport operators. I would like to thank them for all their hard work in helping us win this coveted award ensuring we are able to sustain this valued service in Neath Port Talbot.”
