Primary schools flying high

Denbighshire primary school children are the second best in Wales for attendance, the latest figures from the Welsh Assembly Government have revealed.

Denbighshire’s primary attendance figure for the academic year 2008-2009 was 94.3%, just 0.2% behind Monmouthshire who came out on top.

This is an improvement on the previous year when Denbighshire finished 4th with 94.1% after Monmouthshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham.

Councillor Hugh Evans, Leader and Cabinet Lead Member for Lifelong Learning said, ‘This is a really positive result for Denbighshire primary schools, I am personally delighted with this result.  I would like to thank all students, parents, schools and teachers who have helped us achieve this great attendance record.   This is another example of showing Denbighshire’s education system is moving in the right direction.   I would also like to reaffirm the council’s commitment to improving standards in education.’
