Angela Burns Assembly Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire recently spent a night out on the beat, pounding pavements in Tenby with local police officers on a busy Friday night.
Tenby on a Friday night can become a lively area with it’s concentration of pubs and night clubs, and in order to ensure the safety and security of people the local police adopt a high visibility strategy visiting most of Tenby’s nightspots to engage with landlords and clients.
Mrs Burns said, “I was so impressed by the calm, professional and caring approach the police take, the officers are truly dedicated and put themselves into any situation that is required.
“The value of local Special Constables, whose dedication and commitment is superb whilst not being paid any salary for doing the job is also apparent.
“Within Tenby, the use of CCTV might be seen as intimidating, but having seen at first hand how this tool is used by the police to efficiently monitor local hotspots and record any crimes it is a productive use of this technology. Without it, we as a community would require a lot more police officers on the beat which is currently unrealistic.”
Simon Hart MP also attended the evening and said “We spent an interesting evening with the police and saw first hand what they have to deal with on a typical Friday night in Tenby and Saundersfoot.”
