Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert has welcomed the latest round of the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All small grants programme which will see the Allotments Associations in Heol Fawr in Nelson and Heol Fargoed in Bargoed benefit.
Heol Fawr Allotments Association will receive £1,855 to create a new area for disabled and able bodied gardeners and Heol Fargoed Allotments Association will spend their £2,404 on purchasing tools.
Jeff Cuthbert AM said:
‘This is wonderful news for these communities and particularly those who are avid gardeners. Allotments provide a great opportunity to get outdoors and be active which can improve physical and mental health. When it comes to allotments a little funding can make a big difference, particularly for disabled gardeners.
Colin Brain, secretary for the Heol Fawr Allotments Association, said:
“This money is going to mean so much to our community as some of our members had to give up gardening because of disability but now they will be able to do it again because we’re going to have an area which includes raised flower beds.”
