The second phase of a joint project to reinstate the cast and wrought iron railings and gates in Denbigh is now complete.
The scheme used historic photographs and matched remaining railings and gates at the properties to improve the look of the streetscape. The work also included the repair and restoration of boundary walls and steps.
The project funded by Denbighshire’s Housing and Area Renewals and was managed by the Townscape Heritage Initiative, with a total project cost of £82,000.
Properties that benefited include: 14 to 18 Bull Lane; Crymlyn, Bull Lane; Castello, Bull Lane; and 36 to 39 Gwalia Villas. Highways railings on Castle Hill and Castle Lane were also replaced with a new stone retaining wall constructed by Denbighshire Highways.
The project architect was Robin Wolley, B.Arch RIBA Chartered Architect based in Ruthin. The contractors were Flintshire Fabrications Ltd a family run business and experts in the design, manufacture and installation of all types of steelwork, based in Holywell.
The Denbigh THI is funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, Welsh Assembly Government Physical Regeneration Fund (PRF) and Town Improvement Grants (TIG), CADW: Historic Buildings and Monuments, Denbighshire County Council, Neighbourhood Renewals Areas and Denbigh Town Council. The fund is around £5.5m for this phase.
