Puncheston pupils get their ‘owls’

Pupils at a north Pembrokeshire primary school have been taking part in a special Reading Day.

Puncheston School organised the recent event to inspire youngsters to read and promote the joy of books.

It’s the first such event to be held in the County.

The theme of the reading day was ‘Owls’ – and the birds featured in many of the workshops in both fiction and non fiction books.

Every pupil in the school completed 12 activities during the day and spent time with authors Anwen Francis, Nicola Davies and Chris Stephens. They also learnt how to make paper and had the opportunity to hold real Barn Owls.

Many of the pupils dressed up as a character from their favourite book, while others took part in treasure hunts and a variety of quizzes.

There was also an opportunity for parents to attend, provided they signed in and disclosed their favourite book!

Prior to the Day the school’s older pupils spent time with author Chris Stephens learning about Non-fiction writing.

The event was part funded by the Academi Writers on Tour project and supported by Literacy Advisors from Pembrokeshire County Council.
