A group of would-be young Roald Dahls have had their tall tales professionally recorded onto CD as part of a campaign to improve literacy in boys.
The year five and six pupils, from Cymmer Primary School, developed their tale from start to finish with the help of leading storyteller Michael Harvey during a two day creative writing workshop.
The boys then recorded the story, which was then digitally produced with added sound effects to bring their narrative to life.
A special school assembly was held to showcase the little authors’ work and present them with a copy of the CD to take home and treasure.
Neath Port Talbot Council leader Ali Thomas said this project was just one initiative run by the Neath Port Talbot Council library service as part of the Welsh Assembly Government Improving Boy’s Literacy Programme.
He said: “Boys literacy has been identified nationally as a key aim for both schools and libraries and its importance is given equal prominence in Neath Port Talbot.
“Schools in the county borough are committed to working with our libraries to engage the children in reading and writing.
“Presenting these young authors with their finished work has recognised their excellent achievements. It is hoped that these boys will become positive role models and encourage their peers to read more at school, at home and local libraries.”
