The Welsh Conservatives have made a commitment to appoint a Minister with responsibility for North Wales to give the region’s communities and businesses a greater voice in the Assembly.
Commenting on the announcement, Clwyd West Conservative candidate Darren Millar said:
‘It’s time to put North Wales on the map of the South Wales dominated Assembly. The region has been treated as an afterthought by Labour-Plaid Ministers for far too long and we need to take positive action to put this right.
‘The appointment of a dedicated Minister for North Wales would help ensure that the interests of the region are not overlooked when making important decisions which affect businesses and communities in the area.’
He added: ‘We all remember decisions such as the Health Minister’s proposal to force North Wales patients to travel to South Wales rather than Liverpool for neurology services. Such a decision would never have happened if a Minister for North Wales had been at the Cabinet table.’
