Race Night for Fred Keenor appeal

Would you like to win two hospitality tickets for Cardiff City’s biggest game of the season – against QPR – or perhaps a genuine Aaron Ramsey-worn shirt?

Well, you will get the chance if you turn up for a Night at the Races in aid of the Fred Keenor Statue Appeal which takes place at the Duke of Clarence in Clive Road, Canton, next Thursday (April 14) at 7pm for 7.30pm start.

These great prizes will be up for grabs in a raffle held on the night.

Clayton Jones of St David’s Travel has donated the hospitality package, which includes a meal for two and a match programme, and the best seats in the house for the top of the table clash.

And Cardiff City Football Club has kindly donated one of the shirts Aaron wore during his loan period at the City. Other great prizes have also been donated by sponsors.

Eric Harmer, landlord of the Duke of Clarence, is making a curry with a poppadom for just £2, with all proceeds to the appeal. A total of 100 will be available on the night.

Each of the seven races are sponsored by South Wales based businesses: Admiral Insurance, Dilwar Ali of the Nahin Spice Centre, Jon Bassett of JW Bassett Pubs and Clubs, Capital Law, Wayne Mathews at Classic Sportswear, Knight Fire & Security and St David’s Travel.

Appeal project manager David Craig said: “Eric has been a great supporter of the appeal and we’re delighted that he has offered to run a race night and offer cut price curries with all proceeds to the appeal.

“He’s got a wealth of experience of race nights and we’re confident that punters will have a fun night and a tidy sum will be raised for the appeal.

“We are also very grateful for the donations made by each of the sponsors of the races.”

The fund currently stands at more than £47,500 – over half-way to the £85,000 target.
