Plas Newydd the historic house and gardens in Llangollen, home of ‘The Ladies of Llangollen’ received invaluable assistance from the RAF last weekend.
12 volunteers from the Flight Operations Assistant Course at RAF Shawbury gave up their Saturday and Sunday to help clear and tidy up leaf fall and debris from the 13 acre site.
Ian Dunderdale gardener at Plas Newydd said ‘This is a massive job every year, they really did work well, the group did the work in two days that it would have taken me a month to do on my own.’
Plas Newydd house is closed to visitors during the winter months but the stunning gardens and grounds still receive many visitors.
Kevin Pennington, Denbighshire Heritage Service Team Leader commented:
‘We are really grateful for their help, it is a busy time of year for our gardener, keeping our site well maintained and attractive for visitors and the people of Llangollen to enjoy’
“The impact of this extra help will be really beneficial in looking after our beautiful site.”
Sergant Adam Foxall of RAF Shawbury said:
“The students and myself all enjoyed the opportunity to give something back to the community in such a beautiful setting. The weekend was a great success and we hope that there will be another opportunity to help in the spring”
