Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has welcomed Welsh Government proposals aimed at ensuring train travel is easier and more affordable.
Next year’s increase in the price of rail season tickets in Wales will be held below inflation, which is 3% less than the maximum increase in England.
From January 2014, the maximum regulated fare increase permissible on Arriva Trains Wales services will be reduced from just over 9% to 6%.
The Welsh Government has agreed further measures with Arriva Trains Wales to make ticketing easier and reduce fares.
A discounted multi ticket purchase system will be introduced to enable more flexible travel at a lower price, particularly beneficial for part time workers. 28 new Ticket Vending Machines will also be established across the Wales and Borders franchise.
Lesley Griffiths AM commented:
“The Welsh Government is committed to encouraging greater use of public transport.”
“These latest measures agreed with Arriva Trains Wales will no doubt improve rail services, making ticket purchasing easier and more affordable for people throughout Wales.”
