Raising awareness at Gwynedd libraries

Over the next few months a number of sessions will be held at Gwynedd Libraries to raise awareness of the risk of developing diabetes or having a stroke.

Almost 240,000 people in Wales live with the effects of either stroke or diabetes, and11,000 people will have a stoke this year.

The first session will be held at Caernarfon Library, Thursday 24 January, between 11:00am and 3:00pm.

The sessions have been organised in partnership with Gwynedd Council, Isle of Anglesey County Council, Stroke association, Diabetes UK and NHS Wales. The purpose of the sessions is to raise awareness and to help people understand the risks, as one in ten of us are at risk of developing diabetes or having a stoke.

Gwynedd Council’s Customer Care Cabinet Member, Councillor Ioan Thomas said:

“This initiative is an excellent example of working together, not only between both counties but also with external agencies to offer residents this important service and promote community well-being.

“I’m very pleased that our libraries are being used to hold these important sessions and we hope to see sessions being held in all libraries across the county, starting in Caernarfon next Thursday.”
