Conwy Council is supporting the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day again this year.
On Tuesday 15 June, Council staff will be offering advice and guidance to the public at:
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was established by the United Nations.
On 15 June each year it brings greater recognition of the mistreatment of older adults, and highlights the need for appropriate action. It represents the one day in the year when the whole world voices its opposition to abuse and suffering that is inflicted on some of our older generation.
The Welsh Assembly’s Deputy Commissioner for Older People, Sarah Stone will be spending the day in Conwy to help us raise awareness against abuse.
Cllr Dave Holland, Conwy’s Older People’s Champion urged people to find out more. He said, “Caring communities look after their older residents, each one of us can make a difference and by learning as much as we can about Elder Abuse we can spot the signs and stop it happening.”
The day will end on a light note, as the Conwy Protection of Vulnerable Adult Committee challenge Conwy Councillors to a game of bowls.
