Commenting on today’s publication of a report by the Wales Audit Office, which calls for improvements in the nutritional standards of hospital food, Nick Ramsay AM, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services, said:
“We welcome this report which rightly defends the right of hospital patients to high quality and nutritious meals at a time when they need them most.
“While we welcome the leadership of nurses in delivering improvements in food standards in many hospital wards, the NHS needs leadership at the top to eradicate inequalities in standards and tackle waste.
“Ministers need to work closely with Local Health Boards to ensure compliance with nutritional guidelines, draw up plans to tackle inherent failings and work to reduce inequalities in food costs.”
