Commenting on the Minister for Budget and Business’ Statement from the Welsh Assembly Government on UK Government spending cuts, Shadow Finance Minister Nick Ramsay AM said:
“The Minister has already acknowledged that we need to reduce the deficit and reduce the national debt and that Wales will play its part in this.
“I welcome the fact that the Minister has said that the Assembly Government is working to ensure the formation of structured budgets to deliver services more effectively.
“However, the Minister and the Government are giving out mixed messages and are dithering on whether they will be accepting the Chancellor’s offer to defer spending cuts until next year.
“The Minister also speculated over reform of the Barnett Formula, which is contrary to the position of the Labour Government prior to the election.
“This is no time for playing petty politics. The interests of the people of Wales must come first in any spending decisions the Assembly Government takes.”
