Leading Plaid Cymru councillor Pauline Jarman has accused Local Government Minister Carl Sargeant of double standards by criticising Conwy council but steering clear of similar harsh words for Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Councillor Jarman, the party’s leader on RCT council, said: “Carl Sargeant was quick to criticise Conwy, which is not Labour controlled, for its decision to hire a new chief executive rather than share one.
“However, Labour-run Rhondda Cynon Taf has recently appointed a new director of education at a salary of £114,000 – £21,000 or 23% more than previous director was paid.
“Surely the same principle applies to a director of education as to a chief executive but Carl Sergeant has remained strangely silent as Local Government Minister on RCT. Is he only prepared to criticise non-Labour controlled authorities? It seems like a huge dose of double standards to me.”
