RCT School Holidays Welcome Plenty Of Free Summer Fun

There will be no excuse for pupils in Rhondda Cynon Taf to be bored this summer as the Council’s Services For Young People department and its partners launch an action packed summer holiday activity programme.

This summer in Rhondda Cynon Taf, children and young people aged 11 to 19 can enjoy a whole range of fabulous free activities – in fact it’s the biggest summer provision ever!

The range of 80 or more events being arranged by Services For Young People and Fframwaith has never been so extensive and widespread.

A diverse and enjoyable programme including gorge walking, motorcross, musical theatre, rock school, ice skating, white water rafting, cooking, paintballing, street dance, go-karting, surfing and pop art is just the tip of the iceberg of free activities on offer.

The summer activities programme forms an integral part of the Council’s Services for Young People department, which is dedicated to ensuring young people in the County Borough are given the opportunities they are entitled to and deserve.

Through Convergence funding, the Council and its partners have organised a huge number of fantastic activities and events to ensure young people have plenty to keep them occupied during the summer holidays.

Young people aged 11 to 19 are being invited to choose up to five activities and up to two trips they wish to participate in, free of charge.

The choice of activities is enormous and offers something for everyone, regardless of their age, ability or interests.

Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “We have worked hard to create a varied programme of fun activities to keep younger residents engaged in positive activities throughout the summer holidays. The list of events from which they can select is huge and there really is no excuse not to get out and about, try something new, learn new skills and make new friends”.

While participants of the Summer Programme are limited to the number of activities they can choose, the initiative complements the ongoing scheme of holiday provision, which includes a huge range of leisure centre based activity, play schemes, Skillset, Communities First provision, the e3+ programme, library provision and the County’s calendar of free music in the park, shows and concerts.
