Duport Road bridge gives access from the A48 roundabout at Briton Ferry to the Baglan Energy Park industrial estate along Brunel Way. It can also be used to gain access to Briton Ferry Industrial Estate and the Council’s Household Waste and Re-Cycling Centre.
The bridge is heavily used during weekdays and urgent repair works are now necessary to prevent any serious deterioration to the bridge structure. After careful consideration the Council has concluded that the best option is to close the bridge temporarily to carry out the repairs and to divert traffic along an alternative route. This alternative route will be clearly signposted to ensure drivers are redirected efficiently around the closed bridge.
The full road closure will come in to effect at 6pm on Friday, 3rd June and will remain in place until 6am on Monday, 6th June. This will allow the contractor uninterrupted access to the bridge ensuring better safety for his men and speeding up the operations.
The alterative route for traffic travelling West across Duport Road bridge will be via A474 Neath Road – Ynysymaerdy Road – Shelone Road – Church Street – Ffordd Brunel. Traffic wishing to travel East across Duport Road bridge will be diverted along the same route in the opposite direction. An outline plan showing the diversion route is attached.
John Flower, Director of the Environment Department said, “I apologise for any difficulties and inconvenience that may be caused by this urgent work. Please be assured that every effort will be made to reduce disruption to traffic and residents alike.”
