On Monday South Wales Police will launch their summer Anti Social Behaviour campaign in conjunction with Gwent Police and Community Safety Partnerships, marking the beginning of the school summer holidays.
The six week publicity drive will see bright colourful poster adverts, promoting simple ASB guidance and information on how to report it, displayed in our communities.
In addition a wide range of pre planned activities designed to entertain children during this period, keeping them off the streets and out of trouble have also been organised.
South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Julian Kirby said:
“ South Wales Police and its partners recognise fully the devastating affects that ASB can have on a person’s quality of life.
“The campaign message, Real Problems, Real Solutions demonstrates a clear commitment to working in partnership to tackle ASB, while reassuring the public that they can have confidence in the services we provide.
“In the case of Fiona Pilkington local agencies, particularly the police were criticised for not adequately consolidating information and taking responsibility for addressing the problems she encountered.
“Clearly lessons were learned and we are doing all we can to prevent this from ever happening in South Wales.”
“Joint ASB units have now been set up containing representatives from local authorities working alongside police officers to help improve information sharing.
“An ASB database has also been developed recently to allow for a more holistic approach to the sharing of ASB data between all agencies, which will make the process of identifying repeat/vulnerable victims far more effective, ultimately improving the service we provide to our communities.”
“Together we have made significant progress in the last year, with the number of ASB occurrences dropping considerably. But there is no room for complacency and we fully acknowledge that there is still work to be done”
“We have worked on the development of this database in conjunction with the seven local authorities and South WalesPolice as part of the work of the community safety partnership.
Head of ICT, Phil Bear at Cardiff County Council said:
“This new system will provide a holistic view of Anti Social Behaviour and all interested parties will be able to share information to better manage it. Cardiff Council was happy to assist the partnership by undertaking the development of this new system.”
