Over fifty records were broken at the first major County swimming event of the season.
Pembrokeshire’s top young swimmers excelled themselves at the recent Pembrokeshire Age Group Championships breaking a total of 53 records!
Over 70% of the swims also resulted in personal best times.
Among the record breakers were: Curtis Palmer, Ben Rees, Huw Cooke, Sion Bevan, Nyle Lewis, Ashleigh Willars, Sara Bevan, Megan Rodgers, Isabel Johns, Kaitlyn Hicks, Abbie Williams, Carys Davies, Jemma Hurds, Ffion Davies, Talia Merriman, Ross Sutton, Adam Robson, Kieran Johnson, Daniel Davies, Oliver Crawford, Hazel Fox and Caleb O’Neil.
Held at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre over the weekend of October 23/24, the annual Pembrokeshire Age Group Championships is the first licensed swimming event of the season.
With full electronic timing and a scoreboard, the County’s six local swimming clubs compete against each other and provide an opportunity for young swimmers to achieve times that enable them to qualify for higher standards of competition outside the County.
Ninety two young swimmers from Milford Haven Tigers, Fishguard Flyers, Haverfordwest Seals, Tenby Dolphins and Pembroke & District – took part in the competition entering 460 events in total.
“I was very pleased with the high standard of swimming on show which reflects well on the hard work and dedication of the youngsters as well as their coaches,” said Paul Dowey, Pembrokeshire County Council’s swimming development coach, who also thanked the competition organiser Ann Adams and her team of volunteers.
“The results bode well for the coming swimming season, he added.”
