After the holiday festivities are all over, Denbighshire is encouraging residents to go green and recycle their Christmas trees.
Christmas trees can be taken to any of the council’s recycling centres for composting.
Residents can also place real trees in their green wheely-bins, once they are chopped up. The trees must be placed in the bin with the lid closed.
We will be shredding and composting some of the trees.
Also in the New Year, our waste management team will join forces with countryside services offering residents of Denbighshire the opportunity to recycle their Christmas tree and help save the county’s sand dunes at the same time.
Trees taken to recycling centres at Rhyl and Prestatyn will be placed on the dunes at Prestatyn and Gronant to help trap wind blown sand which will reinforce the dunes. At a time when everybody is talking about climate change and a predicted rise in sea level, this project is particularly appropriate.
Countryside Officer, Garry Davies says: “These dunes are very special and have the highest level of protection possible with designations that are local, national, European and even international. This project provides an interesting focus for recycling and, from past experience, it is an inexpensive but very effective method of sand dune restoration.”
