A series of road-shows are being held across Cardiff to help encourage people to recycle their household waste.
Education officers are visiting seven sites in the city throughout March and April, with the next stop scheduled at
Grand Avenue Shops in Ely, on March 20, from 10am to 4pm.
Cardiff Council is committed to reaching and exceeding a 40 per cent recycling target for all of the city’s waste.
Although immense progress is already being made in many areas, further improvements are essential at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in particular.
While some wards have already been targeted with extensive door-knocking and education campaigns, road-shows are now taking place in areas where household waste recycling is less than 40 per cent.
Education officers will speak informally to members of the public on a number of issues, including:
* Separating waste before visiting a HWRC
* Further information on food composting
* What can be recycled
* What can be composted
* Green Bag Collection Dates
* Where more recycling bags can be obtained
Road-shows have already taken place in Adamsdown and Splott and following this weekend’s event in Ely, the remaining road-shows are scheduled in:
Gabalfa, on March 21 at Wickes Car Park from 10am to 4pm
Grangetown, on March 27 & 28 at IKEA from 10am to 4pm
Fairwater, on April 3 at Fairwater Green from 10am to 4pm
Trowbridge, on April 10 at Tesco from 10am to 4pm
Executive Member for Environment Councillor Margaret Jones said: “The message we are trying to convey is simple; we need you to help us reduce, reuse and recycle. We are already well on the way to meeting our 40 per cent recycling target but much more work needs to be done and an integral part of that is helping to inform and educate citizens. While we have already run a number of campaigns I am confident these road-shows will also prove extremely helpful and insightful to all those who choose to take advantage of them.”
