Rhondda Cynon Taf residents have recycled more waste than ever before!
Congratulations to all environmentally-friendly households who, between them, led to the collection of a staggering 4,083 tonnes of recyclable waste. And it means that 44.1% of all households waste was recycled in one month.
The amount is the highest ever percentage via the weekly kerbside service.
The amount of cans, paper, cardboard, tins, garden cuttings and clothing collected from outside peoples’ homes filled an astonishing 1,160 lorries in a month.
All of it was been taken to the high-tech Bryn Pica centre in Llwydcoed, Aberdare, and was sorted and used for road surfacing, pavements, new paper, and even garden furniture!
Rhondda Cynon Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Frontline Services Cllr Anthony Christopher said: “This is absolutely outstanding news and congratulations go out to everyone for such a phenomenal success.
“To collect 4,083 tonnes of recyclable material from households in just one month is such an incredible result. Together we have avoided pouring hundreds of tonnes of waste into landfill sites and everyone needs to realise that we all have to play our part to recycle more waste.
“Rhondda Cynon Taf Council continues to encourage and support people and by running an accessible and innovative recycling service, complemented by ongoing public education and awareness-raising, we are allowing residents to make up their own minds. And more and more people are making the right decision.
“We make the service as user-friendly as possible, continually extend the way in which you can recycle and educate people and it works just as well as this week’s figures prove.”
Next month the new Food Waste Recycling scheme is being rolled out to 80,000 homes throughout the county borough, which will increase the rate of items recycled even more.
Recycling has never been easier, with an efficient weekly collection service, free recycling bags, easy-to-access community recycling centres, free collection of larger items, an ever-increasing list of items that can be placed in the clear bags and now food waste recycling.
