Winners of an annual music and media project in Rhondda Cynon Taf enjoyed the red carpet treatment when they saw their music videos premiered at the Muni Arts Centre.
Pontypridd-based four-piece band Ladies Love A Superhero and female rock duo Sweet Manics from Treorchy (pictured above) were selected to make their own videos in the fifth annual Make iT! Music and Media project.
The talented young team chosen to create the videos were: Alex Knill, Adam Davies, Bethan Harvey, Darian Rees, Lucy Evans, Adam Jenkins and Portia McGrath.
They worked closely with each band, a team of professional film-makers from Aberdare-based media production company Tantrwm and with film producer Alan Golding. The videos were screened at a special premiere at the Muni in Pontypridd on Thursday, April 29, when the red carpet was rolled out for guests who included Julie Weir, MD of Visible Noise Records, the LostProphets’ record label.
Make iT! is run by RCT Council’s Youth Arts and SONIG Youth Music Industry Programme and is funded jointly by Fframwaith and a 14-19 Learning Pathways grant.
Guest speaker Julie Weir said: “This is a fantastic project, which gives unparalleled and vital first-hand experience to young people interested in careers in the creative industries. All those involved in developing this project should be applauded.”
Liz Driscoll Youth Arts Co-ordinator, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cultural Services said: “The showcase was a huge success and a lot of fun. All the young people who took part in Make iT! this year have learnt such a lot and grown in confidence.”
Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, Cllr Robert Bevan said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic project. Make iT! has certainly been a boost to their personal and career development.”
The audience were also treated to the Make iT! documentary which featured interviews and clips from the past five years. It was made by a former participant on the project, Matthew Dentus, who is now a second year student at Newport Film School.
The finale featured Ladies Love A Superhero and Sweet Manics each playing a live set to an enthusiastic audience.
