Regiment Raises Armed Forces Day Flag in Newport

Ahead of the celebrations for Armed Forces Day tomorrow, the 104 Regiment Royal Artillery stationed at Raglan Barracks in Newport held a short ceremony raising the Armed Forces Day Flag this morning at 9am.

In front of a crowd of well wishers and military personnel, commanding officer Colonel Butcher spoke of the way the local community had supported the troops as a result of coverage of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and praised the efforts and sacrifice of past and present servicemen and servicewomen.

Colonel Butcher was joined at the ceremony by Assembly Member William Graham and the High Sheriff of Gwent, Hugh Phillips.

Speaking at the event Mr Graham said:

‘I was delighted to have had the opportunity to present the Armed Forces Day Flag on behalf of the people of South East Wales to honour the covenant. The dedication and professionalism shown by our Armed Forces personnel is a great source of national pride and I would urge people to show their support for the Armed Forces at events being held across the country tomorrow.’
