Flintshire County Council Trading Standards is warning parents that mock BB guns are being handed out as prizes at summer fêtes and fairs in the County to children as young as 13.
Although the BB guns are marked “AGE: 18 &UP” children who win a prize can select the gun. The guns are supplied with 6mm bullets which, if used indiscriminately could cause serious injury.
Trading Standards is actively contacting amusement centre organisers with a view to ensuring that they are aware of the dangers of supplying these items and enquiries are progressing in regard to a complaint made by a member of the public.
The supply of these replica guns may constitute offences under Consumer Protection and Firearms Legislation.
Trading Standards has advised parents to supervise children at summer events to ensure that replica BB guns are not supplied to anyone under the age of 18.
