Staff, pupils and governors of Ysgol Twm o’r Nant, Denbigh are celebrating after receiving a glowing school report from Estyn, the body that inspects schools across Wales.
The Estyn report states that the school is good because:
- The percentage of pupils that achieve the core subject indicator at the end of Key Stage 2 is consistently higher than the results for the family of schools and above the Welsh average;
- the percentage of pupils that reach Level 5 in all subjects at the end of Key Stage 2 has been higher than the family of schools for the past four years;
- pupils’ level of attendance is consistently high
- there is success in nurturing pupils who are developing into becoming independent, bilingual and responsible learners.
In 2010, 96% of key Stage 1 pupils achieved the Core Subject Indicators, reaching the expected level in Welsh, mathematics and science. In the same year 100% of Key Stage 2 pupils reached the expected level in Welsh or English, mathematics and science.
Other highlights of the report include:
- The day to day management arrangements and systems are excellent.
- The partnership with parents and the community is outstanding.
- The headteacher and deputy’s strategic leadership is very good.
- The Senior Leadership Team has developed a joint vision, with each member of staff working together to the benefit of pupils.
- Effective use is made of resources to support education and learning.
- The staff take into consideration the differing needs of pupils, ensuring there is equal opportunity for pupils to benefit from the full range of educational opportunities.
- A significant improvement has been made since the last inspection.
