Monmouthshire County Council is inviting Caldicot residents to undertake a post-Christmas house clearance and pick up a bargain at the same time by bringing useful but unwanted household items to a swopshop event at the Severn Bridge Social Club in Goldfinch Road.
Held on Saturday, February 11th from 10am to 2pm as part of the Welsh Government’s Tidy Towns initiative, the council’s intention is to help people recycle and reuse as much as possible. Participation is totally free and any items other than electrical goods may be offered provided they are non-hazardous and in reasonably good condition. All residents are welcome to attend whether they bring anything or not.
Articles can range from toys, books, clothing and bikes to small pieces of furniture, maps, garden tools or DVD’s – anything that is no longer wanted but could be used by someone else. People may leave items on the tables provided and assistance will be offered if needed.
Cllr Giles Howard, the council’s cabinet member for Culture & Environment said: “This type of event illustrates how one person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure and that small changes make big differences if we all join in”.
Anything left will be offered to charity or removed to household waste recycling sites. No items will be accepted after 1pm.
At the same time officers from Monmouthshire Housing Association and the county council will be on hand to give advice while other attractions include recycling craft workshops, a cookery demonstration with free sampling plus a session on the ever popular Smoothie bike.
