Residents in Swansea have swapped over to a new way of rubbish disposal without any major problems.
Last week, Swansea Council introduced alternate weekly collections for residents who have their domestic waste picked up on a Thursday or Friday.
From now on it means that residents have their waste collected every week, but each week they must put out specific waste materials depending on what colour week they are on.
During the pink week, household rubbish in black bags, plastics and kitchen waste will be collected.
Then on the green week, kitchen waste and other recyclables like glass, cans, paper and cardboard and green waste in their containers will be collected.
Trish Flint, Recycling Officer for Swansea Council, said: “On the whole, residents included in the changes got it right and put out the correct waste.
“Those that got it wrong will have had a blue information sticker attached to their bags by our collection crew. We need those residents to take their rubbish back off the street and put it back out on the right day.
“These are major changes for residents and the Council and so we appreciate some will need time to get used to the new system.”
Council litter crews will continue to monitor streets that changed over to ensure the streets are free of refuse and recycling sacks.
During the last few months, residents included in the changes will have received an information pack to let them know their pink week from their green week. But if residents have misplaced or accidentally disposed of the information, they can either call the Council or visit a specially developed website that gives out the information.
Trish said: “We will do all we can to ensure residents know exactly what waste they need to put out on which week.
“If anyone is unsure, all they need to do is check the Council’s website or call us.”
Call the Council’s Environment call centre number on 01792 635600 or visit the council’s website at www.swansea.gov.uk/recycling and enter your street or postcode into the system to check if you’re on a pink week or a green week.
