Residents Warned Following Suspicious Incident

Residents are being informed of a suspicious incident in Aberaman, in which a man was visited at his home on a Sunday evening, by two men who demanded money, who claimed that he owed Council Tax.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council wishes to make it absolutely clear that, while the Council or organisations authorised to collect council tax on its behalf (bailiffs) may make personal visits to a resident’s home to discuss Council Tax, this would not happen on a Sunday and the Council Officer or bailiff would always carry and present personal identification and explain the nature of the visit.

The Council is urging residents not to discuss any personal business with someone until and unless they are completely satisfied that the person is acting on behalf of the Council. If they are in anyway suspicious of the caller’s intention or identity, then they should contact the police immediately.

Residents should always ask the caller to prove their identity, with a photographic identification card for example, or the relevant Council paperwork regarding their council tax account, which a Council Officer or bailiff would always carry with them.

In the meantime, the Council continues to do all it can to assist in the investigation into the incident.,

After being visited at his home in Aberaman by the two men who demanded money, the man sent them away empty-handed, and then  went  into the Aberdare One4All Centre to get advice and check the status of his Council Tax account.
