The final phase of the restoration work to Insole Court’s Swiss Wing is scheduled to start in the next few weeks.
The refurbishment of the Swiss Wing ground floor will enhance the Grade II listed building and enable more functions to be held in this historic Victorian mansion which will be the culmination of several years work.
The final phase will cost £250,000 bringing the total amount spent on restoration works to £850,000.
The first phase of work to the ground floor was completed in 2008 and it re-opened for public use for various activities. These included adult education classes, activity groups, rooms for hire and access to the café and library operated by the Friends of Insole Court.
As part of the restoration project a Conservation Management Plan is also being commissioned which will include both the house and the gardens. This plan will provide a detailed statement on the significance of the building and grounds and is an essential document in terms of the future management and restoration of the site.
Cllr. Nigel Howells, Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture said: “This is great news for Insole Court. We are pleased that the final phase of works will allow the Swiss Wing to be restored to its former glory. Cardiff Council has been committed to restoring the historical 19th century mansion and we hope that relationship between the Council and the Friends of Insole Court will continue to grow and that the community will make good use of the diverse programme of activities for many years to come.”
